Based in Seattle, Washington, Claire Wei is an award-winning flutist who has been a featured soloist with the Sewanee Summer Festival Orchestra and with the University of Washington Wind Ensemble. As a dedicated performer, Claire plays as Principal Flute of the University of Washington Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, with additional roles in the Leonore Chamber Orchestra and other chamber collaborations. Previously, Claire was Principal Flute of the 2023 National Association for Music Education All-Northwest Honor Orchestra and Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra’s flagship ensemble. Claire’s live performance of the Nielsen Flute Concerto has been featured in radio broadcast program ‘Northwest Focus Live’ on Classical KING FM 98.1.
Claire is a winner of the 2025 National Flute Association Masterclass Competition, and as such, she was a featured masterclass performer in the flute association’s annual convention in Atlanta, GA. Claire is also a winner of the 2024 Jacqueline Avent Concerto Competition and a two-time honorable mention winner of the University of Washington Concerto Competition. Previously, she was a finalist in the National Flute Association High School Soloist Competition in Chicago, IL. and was awarded first place in Seattle Flute Society’s Horsfall Soloist Competition. Claire has spent her summers as a featured performer at ARIA International Summer Academy (MA), Sewanee Summer Music Festival (TN), and Juilliard SummerWinds (NY). Claire is a third-year Bachelor of Music student in Flute Performance at the University of Washington, where she studies with Professor Donna Shin. Claire has pursued additional studies with renowned flutists such as Jim Walker, Bonita Boyd, and Leone Buyse.
Committed to her craft beyond performance, Claire is an avid music transcriber and arranger, often making arrangements of major orchestral works for flute choir. Claire also enjoys cooking, taking pictures of wildlife, and traveling with her friends and family.
